South Shore of Lake Superior

South Shore of Lake Superior
Devils Island Sea Caves, Apostle Islands

A road trip from Copper Harbor in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan westward along the southern coast of Lake Superior to Two Harbors, Minnesota, joining a tour in Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. Staying in waterfront lodging most of the time, we sought waterfalls, lighthouses and scenic views. We found the Keweenaw Penisula from Copper Harbor to Porcupine Mountain to be beautiful and uncrowded. Bond Falls were the most outstanding Michigan waterfall west of Tahquamenon Falls. We loved the boat grand tour of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. A highlight was taking our pickup on the ferry to Madeline Island and driving out to Big Bay State Park to walk the Point Trail. We enjoyed the peaceful vibe and craftsmanship of the Bayfield Treehouse on the “Fruit Loop” road above Bayfield, WI. Riding my bicycle on the Duluth Lakewalk trail was just wonderful.
